Trailblazer: Wesley H.

I’m Wesley, and behind me are our grape plants.
Hi, I’m Wesley! I’m 10 years old and I live in Minnesota with my mom and dad. I play the piano, ukulele, drums, guitar, recorder, and flute, and I like to compose songs for my Bahá’í children’s class using the quotes we are memorizing. For a career, I’d like to be a musician. I hope my music will make those who hear it joyful and happy.
My favorite Bahá’í activities are going to children’s classes and saying prayers. My hobbies are reading, building with LEGO bricks, and playing music.
I also like feeding and spending time with our chickens. We have eight chickens. They lay eggs for us. I am fond of Gus, the chicken with cheek fluffs. Gus is an Ameraucana. We have seven hens and one rooster that helps us meet neighbors. One of our chickens named Lucy can’t find doors that are wide open for some reason. Our chickens like to jump up into our grape plants and eat them. “Bok! Bok! Bok! Bok! Bockok!” is their egg-laying song. I can mostly understand what they are talking about because I learned to speak chicken.
The virtues I admire most in people are kindness, helpfulness, and generosity. One way I practice those virtues is to give food to people. We have a garden, and my favorite food is salad made from lettuce and other vegetables from our garden.

A place I’d love to visit is Africa. I want to go to Africa because of the music and the elephants. The country I want to go to is Kenya because there are African elephants there, and I want to see what it is like there.
My hero or role model is Mullá Husayn, because he spoke with the Báb and kept his promise not to tell anyone about the Báb right away. I think that would be really hard. I’d want to tell everyone right away.
